ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF CATALONIA - GIRONA

The Archaeology Museum, founded in the mid 19th century, one of Catalonia's oldest, resides amidst the incomparable setting of the Romanesque Sant Pere de Galligants monastery. Its remarkable archaeological collection affords a captivating review of Girona's regional history, from its initial settlers to the Middle Ages.

The ancient Sant Pere de Galligants monastery, dated to the 10th century AD, became headquarters of the Provincial Antiquities and Fine Arts Museum in 1870, thanks to provisions made by the Provincial Monument Commission. It came to form part of the Archaeology Museum of Catalonia in 1995.
